The Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) exists to ensure that we provide quality recreational programs to people of all ages in the greater Chico area, so that you can answer "YES!" you have played today! In addition to recreational programs and our public parks, CARD also operates many community facilities here in Chico. And that's where this position comes in. Facility Attendant I's perform a wide variety of duties related to customer service and ensuring our facilities are open and ready for use. As a result of the usage of CARD facilities, the position will require both night and weekend shifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  •  Serve as the District liaison for facility users during scheduled events.
  • Respond to facility user needs, complaints, concerns, inquiries, and emergencies in a professional and safe manner in accordance with District policies and procedures.
  • Provide quality customer service; maintain a professional demeanor, and have positive communication and interactions with co-workers, vendors and the public. 
  • Open and close facilities for activities and events; prepare facilities for event use including set-up and take down of chairs, tables, and equipment; ensure premises are vacated, cleaned, alarms are activated, and all doors are secured and locked. 
  • Monitoring activities which include continually walking around the facility to ensure room capacity adherence/exercise crowd control; observing equipment for defects; observing participants for misuse of District equipment, inappropriate conduct, or non-compliance with policies and procedures and District rules and regulations.
  • Perform custodial and maintenance duties at facilities including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, emptying garbage, sweeping debris, etc.
  • Survey District facilities for potential problems and hazardous conditions (i.e. non-functioning light bulbs, vandalism, etc.) and report to the Facility Coordinator. 
  • Record and report accidents, injuries, and emergency situations to the Facility Coordinator.


  • Ability to respond appropriately to facility users within the context of District policies and procedures while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public, co-workers and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to identify and analyze potential problems, situations, and needs; and carry out solutions appropriately and quickly. 
  • Ability to work irregular hours as required, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends with varying schedules.
  • May be required to possess a valid California Driver License and be insurable on the District’s vehicle liability policy.



Frequent performance of moderate manual labor; frequent sitting, walking, standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, twisting, kneeling or squatting.  Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.   Constant use of overall vision.  Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching.  Frequent hearing and talking in person; occasionally by phone.  Frequent public and co-worker contact; occasional working alone.  Frequent exposure to loud noises and large groups of people.
