Position Summary:

The Patient Transporter helps patients by transporting them into, around and out of the health care organization.  The Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting patients to and from their vehicles or mode of transportation, into, lifting them on and off beds, moving them to and from treatment areas and operating rooms, using wheelchairs or moveable beds.  Transports equipment and supplies and delivers them to an assigned treatment area and patient care area.  Ensures assigned areas are kept clean and adequately supplied.  Always works as a team member within the entire facility.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Transports patients by assisting patients in and out of taxis, ambulances, cars, and helicopters; lifting patients on and off beds; moving them to and from special service and treatment areas, and operating rooms; using wheelchairs or moveable beds.
  • Transports equipment and supplies by picking-up requisitioned orders; delivering them to assigned treatment areas and patient care areas.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations and regulatory standards.
  • Enhances health care organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.

 

Accountability:

  • Reports to:  Assistant Director and Director of Surgery
  • Supervises:  none 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Previous health care experience preferred.
  • Customer service with excellent bedside manner.
  • Must have good communication skills
  • BLS required; if not currently trained, must obtain BLS training within 90 days of hire.

  • Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull):  Heavy Work (exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 50 lbs to 75 lbs of force constantly to move objects)

Environmental Conditions:        

            Level: High

High exposure to hazardous risks and contaminants, including potential for exposure to infections materials, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, radiology and fluoroscopy equipment, chemicals, cleaning solvents, sterilization chemicals, sharps and wet floors.  Hazards will be minimized if universal safety procedures are followed.  Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
