Per Diem (PRN) - Monday through Friday, Variable Days, 8:30am to 5pm 

 

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant/Advanced Unlicensed Assistant is responsible for facilitating the flow of patients through the diagnostic testing process. The primary function of this job is to gather information regarding the flow of patients, assess the needs of the department and ensure the patients are escorted through the diagnostic testing process in an efficient, complete and timely process that models the customer service philosophy of the hospital.  This person must be able to register patients using the “quick reg” process, work in the capacity of a phlebotomist in the laboratory and work as an MA/AUA in the pre-testing department, assisting with obtaining EKG’s, phlebotomy and providing necessary paperwork to pre-operative patients. This person always works as a team member and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently demonstrate premier customer service and communication skills with all internal and external customers/contacts and ensure the patient and their family members have the best hospital encounter possible.
  • Provide care to patients according to policy and procedure and patient care standards.
  • Ability to prioritize the needs of the patient and the department.
  • Notify Director of delays in patient flow.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for knowing the functions of the phone system in order to professionally handle incoming calls and appropriately transfer calls,
  • Anticipate and adapt to change in a positive manner.
  • Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner which promotes efficiency.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications.
  • Satisfactorily demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrate competency in performing the job duties.

 

Accountability:

  • Reports to Director of Pre-Admission Testing Department.
  • Supervises: None

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • One year experience in an acute care or medical office setting preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with short time-lines, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Exceptional ability to interact and communicate effectively, tactfully and diplomatically with patients, families, medical staff, co-workers, employers and insurance company representatives.
  • Must have a pleasant disposition, positive attitude and possess the ability to maintain a cordial and professional approach during periods of stress.
  • Skill in using office equipment:  basic computer skills, photocopier, telephone, fax machine, calculator, label printer.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act decisively in a timely manner.
  • MA or AUA certification and completion of a formalized phlebotomy and EKG training program, OR one year experience as a CNA, MA or Phlebotomist with formalized training phlebotomy and EKG training required.
  • BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.

Environmental Conditions:        

Level: High

High exposure to hazardous risks including potential for exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Hazards will be minimized if universal safety procedures are followed. Must follow standard precautions. May be required to flex schedules

 

Requirements
