Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Triages incoming telephone calls according to established policies and procedures
  • Schedules/reschedules appointments with physician for established patients
  • Prioritizes patient need based on collected information obtained through patient interview or physical examination
  • Instructs/directs patients in a timely manner according to established policies and protocols related to plan of care
  • Keeps an open line of professional communication with assigned staff and physicians regarding patient needs
  • Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties
  • Ensures documentation in medical record accurately reflects communication and patient’s plan of care
  • Telephones prescription requests to pharmacy per physician order; documents action in patient medical record
  • Performs patient education when appropriate including oral and written education related to diagnosis, procedures, and/or medications
  • Make changes in provider schedules as directed by physician or management
  • Provides feedback for development and updating of written policies, procedures and protocols in conjunction with the Clinical Manager and Team Lead
  • Assists with orientation for new staff and on-going training for department staff as directed by Clinical Manager and Team Lead
  • Maintains documentation of Triage statistics as directed by Clinical Manager

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical training from an approved program preferred
  • EMT or AEMT preferred
  • Medical degree or certification required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least two years of experience in a physician office, hospital, or equivalent setting required in a hands on clinical role
  • Experience working in Surgical or Orthopaedic Clinic
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Working knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population
  • Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
  • Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
