Folder Operator

Description

A Folder Operator folds sheets of paper into folders or signatures, finished or unfinished, using a folding machine.

  • Reads and understands the job ticket.
  • Catches, removes and/or cartons completed printed pieces at the delivery end of folding equipment or other finishing equipment.
  • Loads feeders for folders.
  • Performs sorting procedures and salvage operations as directed.
  • Performs other functions such as skid packing or loading, making boxes or cartons, labeling finished product, plastic wrapping skids, moving stock and material and setting up and/or moving conveyors.
  • Operates a power pallet jack and hand lift truck.                                 
  • Cleans up and keeps work area neat and orderly. 
  • Does hand collating and other manual tasks in binding/finishing
  • Gathers empty skids around machine prior to the beginning of the binding/finishing run.
Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 
  • One to three years related experience.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers or other employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
  • where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge and understanding of bindery operations, functions and maintenance are required.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving methods on binding machine operations.
